I know this is an old entry but an answer may help others who are looking now or in the future.

You should Try Totara Park / Botanical Gardens in manukau - they have a huge amount of off lease area and a network of paths and tracks that goes through the Totara Park farm. Lots of furry friends usually as well to help wear out your little buddy :) enjoy.

A bit closer to the CBD (not the sane scale but still large) is Churchill Park over in Glendowie just out of St Heliers.
